Description

Guillermo Yanez (C)

B86 dark nebulae

Ha/Ha/CLS/(Ha+CLS):2

75 minutes exposure in each channel (Ha/CLS)

2020/07/14

Lo Barnechea, Chile

Bortle 7 skies, seeing 4/5, transparency 3/5

Steven O'Meara included NGC6520, the open cluster right to the left of the ink spot dark nebulae ias object 88 in the hidden treasures catalog. In this case, B86 is hidden behind so many gems in Sagittarius and usually goes unnoticed but according to my interpretation of O'Meara, it would rather be B86 eclipsing the beauty of the open cluster. Interesting way to see it.

This is a starry and contrasty field towards the core of our galaxy. B86 and NGC6520 are easy to find with binoculars under fairly dark skies.

I had problems with the meridian flip and guiding, so lost the OIII subexposures. I ended up combining CLS/Ha and averaging both for the green channel to provide natural color.
